Plainfield, NJ — June 10th, 2025, Barack Obama Green Charter Schools concluded May with an immersive cultural exploration focused on learning about the U.S. Constitution. Students engaged in activities that blended history with culinary experiences in Chinatown and participated in discussions about social justice reform at ROC Nation’s UJC Summit. The Museum of We the People, located at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, serves as a hub for Civic Education. The students at Barack Obama Green Charter School play an active role in their community and were invited to debate during these field trips what it means to them to live in a special place.
Did you know that China only has one time zone? There are over 300 languages and dialects spoken in China, making Chinese one of the most diverse linguistic families in the world. Sightseeing and dining in Chinatown have a new meaning with traditional Chinese symbols and lunar celebrations. Barack Obama Green Charter High School students got the chance to explore new flavors, places, and activities in Chinatown! Chinatown has a history of resilience and advocacy, and our students were excited to spark meaningful conversations about its traditions and diverse culture.
The United Justice Coalition (UJC) at ROC Nation’s 2nd Annual Social Justice Summit hosts engagement opportunities with charitable organizations. The field trip consisted of panel topics moderated by Charlamagne Tha God, discussing family matters, mental health, women and criminal justice, conditions of confinement, and more. Our students contributed their efforts toward mental health reform while hearing from participants creating advocacy for change. The summit’s focus on mental health reform and family matters resonated as one student writes, “In a just city, you are more than you think”. Barack Obama Green Charter High School had an impactful few days, highlighting what it means to take part in conversations about cultural spaces and youth advocacy.
